At its annual meeting in October 2017, the IAF adopted a resolution on the inadmissibility of certification according to ISO 31000 (Risk Management). IAF Resolution 2017-20 (agenda item 9): Certification according to ISO 31000:2009 Risk Management – Principles and Guidelines.
The General Assembly, on the recommendation of the Technical Committee, decided not to support any accredited certification to ISO 31000:2009 Risk Management – Principles and Guidelines (publication date 13 November 2009).
The text of ISO 31000 explicitly states that the standard is not intended or suitable for certification and any certification would constitute misuse of it. Therefore, conformity assessment bodies are strongly encouraged not to support or provide certification to ISO 31000 and accreditation bodies and conformity assessment bodies are encouraged to report any misuse or request for certification directly to the ISO Secretariat.
