2. Reason and method of establishment

The Czech Accreditation Institute, a public benefit corporation (CAI), was established by the Czech Republic - the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the basis of Act No. 248/1995 Coll., on Public Benefit Corporations, by the charter of the public benefit corporation of 13 February 1998 as a national accreditation body. It was entrusted with the implementation of accreditation pursuant to Act No. 22/1997 Coll., on Technical Requirements for Products, by Decision No. 135/98 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade; the scope of the authorization was subsequently expanded by Decisions No. 190/2010, No. 163/2012, No. 152/2017, No. 68/2019 and No. 34/2021. CAI is the national accreditation body of the Czech Republic within the meaning of Regulation (EC) No. 765/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council setting out the requirements for accreditation and market surveillance relating to the marketing of products and repealing Regulation (EEC) No. 339/93. In exercising its powers as an accreditation body, CAI is guided in particular by the above-mentioned legal regulations and the ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17011 standard General requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies.
