Multilateral Mutual Recognition Agreements (MLA/MRA)

Based on the positive results of international audits (so-called evaluations), CAI is currently a signatory to the following agreements on mutual recognition of accreditation results:

in the area:

  • testing since November 24, 1998
  • calibration since November 24, 1998
  • product certification since November 24, 1998
  • certification of persons since November 24, 1998
  • management system certification since November 24, 1998
  • inspection from October 17, 2003
  • verification from October 3, 2013 / August 29, 2023 (for ISO/IEC 17029)
  • provision of proficiency testing from April 27, 2017
  • manufacturers of reference materials from May 9, 2019

The EA MLA is a European agreement through which the signatories to the agreement mutually recognise the accreditations granted and the protocols, reports and certificates issued by the persons accredited by the signatories. The agreement covers various areas and has a transparent system of regular mutual evaluations. The current list of EA MLA signatories is available at EA website.

The ILAC MRA provides confidence in accreditation bodies and their ability to determine the competence of laboratories to perform testing and calibration and inspection bodies to perform inspections. A current list of ILAC MRA signatories, including the activities covered by the ILAC MRA, is available by membership category at ILAC website.

    • ISO 14001 (EMS) since October 9, 2004
    • ISO/IEC 27001 (ISMS) from April 5, 2018

    • ISO 13485 (MDMS) from April 5, 2018
    • ISO 50001 (EnMS) from April 5, 2018
    • ISO 45001 (OHSMS) from February 5, 2020
  • product certification since October 9, 2004
    • product certification in the GlobalG.AP IFA CPCCs scheme from May 22, 2014
  • certification of persons from October 20, 2016
  • validation and verification from May 11, 2018

The IAF MLA provides confidence in accreditation bodies and their ability to determine the competence of certification bodies to perform certification. A current list of IAF MLA signatories, including the areas covered by the agreement, is available at IAF website.

The International Accreditation Forum (IAF), in collaboration with an external firm, has launched a global database of accredited management system certificates (so-called IAFCertSearch), which provides businesses and governments with the ability to digitally validate certificates to determine whether the certificate is valid and whether the certification body that issued the certificate is accredited to a given extent.

The Global ACI MRA provides confidence in accreditation bodies and their ability to determine the competence of laboratories to perform testing and calibration, inspection bodies to perform inspections, and certification bodies to perform certification. A current list of Global ACI MRA signatories, including the areas covered by the agreement, is available at Global ACI website.

The EU-Canada Multilateral Agreement on Telecommunications and EMC is now replaced by the CETA Protocol on Mutual Recognition of Conformity Assessment Results.

CAI automatically becomes the national accreditation authority for this area, as do other signatories to the previous multilateral agreement.
