Czech Accreditation Institute, a public benefit corporation, as the National Accreditation Body established by the Government of the Czech Republic, provides its services in accordance with applicable legal regulations in all areas of accreditation to both state and private entities. The principle of a unified European accreditation system consisting of national accreditation bodies that operate according to uniform rules and accredit according to defined internationally recognized standards is based on the EC position specified in the Global Approach to Testing and Certification.
In accordance with the requirements of international standards and documents, CAI conducts impartial, objective and independent assessment of competence (accreditation) for:
- Testing laboratories (ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018)
- Medical laboratories (ČSN EN ISO 15189 ed. 2:2013 or ČSN EN ISO 15189 ed. 3:2023)
- Calibration laboratories (ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018)
- Certification bodies performing certification of quality systems, environmental management systems, occupational health and safety management systems, information security management systems, food safety management systems and sustainable forest management systems (ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17021-1:2016)
- Certification bodies providing product certification (ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17065:2013)
- Validation and verification bodies (ČSN EN ISO 14065:2013 or ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17029:2020)
- Certification bodies performing certification of persons (ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17024:2013)
- Inspection bodies (ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012)
- Proficiency testing providers (ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17043:2023)
- Environmental verifiers of EMAS programmes and supervision of foreign environmental verifiers (EC Regulation No 1221/2009)
- Reference material producers (ČSN EN ISO 17034:2017)
- Biobanks (ČSN EN ISO 20387:2021)
Membership in international organizations (EA, ILAC, IAF) and the signing of international multilateral agreements EA (at the European level) and ILAC, IAF (at the global level) on the mutual recognition of accreditation results gives guarantees of the professional level of work and approach on the part of CAI.
Proof of CAI's high level of expertise and erudition is also the regular peer review (evaluation) by EA, which takes place once every four years.
CAI, in compliance with the requirements based on ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17011:2018, has declared a policy of impartiality:
- top management is committed to maintaining impartiality in granting accreditation,
- senior management understands the commercial, financial and other pressures that could influence its judgment or performance, the importance of impartiality in granting accreditation,
- Top management manages any potential conflicts of interest and ensures the objectivity of its activities.
